Ngige Raps Obi for Blaming Supporters over Adoration Stampede The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Anambra election, Senator Chris Ngige has faulted the state governor, Mr. Peter Obi, for playing the blame game over the stampede that occured weekend at Adoration Ground in Uke, Idemili South council area of the state. Ngige who warned the governor to stop shifting the blame to his supporters said rather, the people of Anambra should hold the governor responsible and accountable for the avoidable deaths. According to the Director- General of the Ngige campaign organisation, Chief George Moghalu, who spoke at a press conference said the fact that both the governor and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) National Chairman, Chief Victor Umeh chose to play politics with such a national tragedy in which they were principal actors was unfortunate. Referring to Obi’s broadcast on the issue where he made allusions to Ngige’s supporters as the cause of the stampede that claimed over 25 people and many injured, Moghalu said it was another cheap and desperate effort to cover up the heinous crime committed against fellow Anambra citizens, adding that such must be seen as part of the orchestrated desperate campaigns to drag the reputation of the APC candidate in the mud but which has failed. He said the Holy Ghost Adoration Ground in Uke where the tragedy took place is purely a house of prayer where traumatised Anambra people go to reconcile themselves with God and seek succor from pains inflicted on them by the poor governance in Anambra state. “But the Governor and the APGA national chairman, Chief Victor Umeh took their candidate in the Anambra governorship election, Chief Willie Obiano, with their entire campaign in full campaign uniforms to the prayer ground to campaign, claiming that the priest in-charge of the adoration ground invited him, but failed to tell the world for what purpose and whether he was asked to come with the APGA campaign train to campaign.” He said the governor, in his statement, had inadvertently admitted that the worshippers openly protested his attempt and that of the APGA campaign train to turn the prayer meeting into a campaign rally and that there was no doubt that it was the same protests by congregants that eventually culminated in the avoidable deaths caused by the stampede. “The statement credited to the Anambra State government that the stampede which killed over 30 people was caused by the supporters of Senator Chris Ngige should therefore be disregarded as a tissue of lies by the good people of Anambra State and Nigerians in general. “One thing stands out clearly which can never be dimmed by any desperate campaign. This tragedy could have been avoided if APGA campaign train did not visit the adoration ground at such unholy hour to campaign for votes. Better still, if the Governor had heeded the protests of the congregants not to turn their prayer ground to a campaign rally. “We gathered that it was the booing of Governor Peter Obi that angered the security personnel of the Governor to charge at the crowd when the governor made his way out of the prayer ground. The Governor should not hold Senator Ngige responsible for his growing unpopularity and how the people choose to react to him whenever he appears in public. “We urge Governor Peter Obi to accept full responsibilities for his callous actions and insensitivity and cease to indulge in an infantile blame game. More importantly, he should pray for God’s forgiveness and allow the Almighty to have His way in the forth coming governorship election,” he said.
