Nick Wilson, I have something for you and others to think about. I was in the Township Assessors office and they pointed out that many of our abandoned, unkempt, vandalized houses are owned by investors out of state. You and I have both been aware of this fact and Dave Burns once alluded to the fact that we should be putting the pressure directly on those who are abusing our city by purchasing and letting these low cost investments rot and ruin our community. Can we, instead of pointing fingers to those who are here in the community trying to do something, begin to bring attention to the neighbors of these properties that the GIS and who owns them is public information. I propose that we begin a writing campaign to the owners and investors of these properties and slam them will mailings from the neighbors, neighborhood associations, perhaps even letters written by attorneys, giving them a copy of local code, and describe the loss that we directly experience from their unethical purchases. Peer pressure is one of the best motivators. If no response, we could call press conferences, document in pictures who owns the worst properties, put it online and through the associated press, research the owners of the investment companies and begin to shame them publicly. It will require some time and effort, and a caution to not slander, but to provide only pictures and let the audience decide if they are being good community neighbors. I propose the everyone spend the 50 cents and begin writing letters to the addresses that the tax bills go to now!! Including Cahill.
