Nigeria: Massob Sit-At-Home Order Records Partial Compliance BY CHRISTOPHER ISIGUZO, 9 JUNE 2013 Despite the calls by different groups, including the Igbo Security Organisation (ISO), and the police on the people of the South-east to ignore the sit-at-home order by the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB), there was partial compliance with the order in Enugu yesterday as most residents stayed indoors. Both the ISO led by Ndubuisi Igwekani (aka Agu-Biafra) and the police in the state had advised residents to ignore the order and go about their lawful businesses. But, THISDAY checks revealed that the popular Ogboete, Enugu main market, the new market and Kenyetta market were merely ghost of themselves as businesses moved on snail speed, as most of the shop-owners complied with the sit-at-home order. Though, most of the stalls in the markets, including artisans along the Ogui road opened for business, THISDAY noticed that between the hours of 8am and 4pm, there were few number of people who visited the markets. Also, in some of the rural areas like Nsukka, Uzo-Uwani, Isi-uzo, Agwu among others, members of the MASSOB ensured serious compliance as they reportedly blocked major roads with used tyres and bonfires. As if helping MASSOB to enforce compliance, police vans and sedans were seen patrolling major streets and roads within the metropolis, a situation which rather instilled fears in the residents thus forcing them to stay indoors. "I had wanted to go out with my kids to the market, since this is Saturday but when we came out and saw heavily armed mobile policemen patrolling every where, it was as if there was going to be war; the best we could do was to stay indoors instead of going out to be either molested or killed in the process," a resident, Mrs. Nkechi Agbo, who stays along Agbani road, told THISDAY. When contacted, the leader of the Igbo Security Organisation, Igwekani said from his findings, the security operatives helped MASSOB to achieve their aims as they instilled fears in people and made them to stay at home. "Time has come for our governors to come out and take a strong position against Ralph Uwazurike and his group. Igbos should now know who their enemies are and not to continue to listen to the likes of Uwazurike," he said.
