Nigeria at 53! It seems a milestone; yeah it is but sincerely I’m yet to see any positive achievement rather all that abound is poverty, corruption, crime, conflicts, anarchy, terrorism, unemployment, gross misconduct just to mention a few. It is going from bad to worse as the clock ticks; there is little or no love amongst brethren, free and fair election is almost an impossibility, roads meant for pleasure rides are now ‘death traps’, supposed ‘role models’ are rather cult leaders or godfathers, most students fancy ‘miracle centres’ rather than sit tight and read and it is even more shameful that parents aid their wards in this act, erratic power supply is already becoming a norm. The list is indeed a lengthy one. It is that bad but I believe there is still hope though just a glimmer. Things can only get right if selfless, principled public leaders take the mantle of leadership hence leaving no room for traits such as avarice and prejudice to play a role. This obligation should not only be reserved for the leaders in public offices and the likes but to all and sundry because we’re all leaders in some capacity either at home, at school, at committees, even in the church.
