Nigerian Good Days Are Coming Back. from Ayo Folayan, Chelsea, West London, wrote. I have been in Nigeria for the past 3 weeks for my annual leave, as I did made it a duty to spend my leave in Nigeria every year instead of going to other parts of Europe, US or Caribbeans. One thing that I will not fail to point out is that Nigeria as a country is changing every day, even beyond my cynical mind. Irrespective of the security challenges, each time I came back to Nigeria, there must be something that will cheer me up, about the country that I love so much. Proudly it is gradually and surely catching up with the rest of the world. Last 2 weeks my cousin was having his wedding in a neighbouring state capital. I asked them if they have concluded arrangements with Luxury bus or coaster bus owners for our journey. I was deeply confused as everyone was giving me a pathetic look, others ignored me. My mother tapped me on the back and said Ayo my son, our level have changed. We do not hire buses again, but travel with train as you people do in England. I do not know if I will be angry about how everyone including my mother addressed me, before we left for the train station. I was sincerely apprehensive, counting hours to see my mothers train that she is equating to our Local London trains and the National rail luxury trains. I was shocked seeing the newly modified train platform or the train station and how orderly people conducted themselves. There was a proper health and safety arrangement, especially the red lines near the rail track, although people were still crossing it. They were also railways workers making announcement on safety issues and train times. When the train was delayed for about 15 minutes, my mother re-assured me that the train will surely come, as the delay might be as result of people off-loading goods at other train stations. Exactly 14 minutes later, I saw the head of the train negotiating the bend and my mother looked at me and her face beamed with smile, without uttering a word. I know exactly what she mean by those looks. I promised myself to get back to her soon. The Interior of the train is very clean and not over crowded. The driver keep announcing stops for passenger to alight off the train. I decided to look for my mothers trouble, by intentionally telling her many things that her train do not have when compared to the trains she use when she visits me in London. I told her that there is no display Unit informing people of stops and the announcement is always made by someone, instead of Machine or a combination as we have in London trains. I dont know that I have stupidly cross my mums red line, by talking down her train. She barked at me, not bothering that there are people around, Ayo shut up, shut up that your London mouth. This is not London, this is Nigeria, and we will surely reach there. My heart clinch and I told her that I am sorry, she gave it back to me, Ayo, sorry for yourself. She did not talk to me until we were about to get off the train. I am still surprised by the type and level of patriotism my mother developed of late. I really supported her optimism, that Nigeria will surely reach where other developed countries have attain. It should be noted that every progressed country in the world must have passed through the rough time that Nigeria is facing today and with one voice and hands together, they declared that they will surely overcome. I am very sure that with the way things are going in the Health, Transportation, Agriculture, Education, Telecommunication, Energy sectors in the last few years, Nigeria will soon join the league of modern, developed and prosperous Nations.
