Nikki Littrell I just wanted to thank you for your post the other day regarding taking it slow with our young horses. I have a 4 year old I am bringing along with the hopes of her being an upper level partner one day. She has been quite tense in our recent rides and her quality, rhythm, and suppleness at all gaits, but especially the walk, has decreased quite a bit. After reading your post I have spent the last two rides focusing solely on the walk and what a remarkable turnaround she has made! Her walk is far better than it has ever been and her relaxation has returned with a new confidence in moving forward into contact. Sometimes the best way to progress is to take a couple steps back and slow down.
