Nine years ago today I saw war forever change the hearts of men. Entering a hornets nest near the town of Turki Village, Diyala Province, Iraq these same men had to do the unthinkable to suppress and survive. I seen medics running across open ground to bring guys ammo, I seen guys blaze away with anger and sorrow from behind dirt berms and gun turrets, and I seen a man give his life trying to save an Iraqi comrade. Yes, war is hell. Its unthinkable at times when you live it daily with visions of things they dont mention on CNN or write about in text books. Its also hard to get the taste of fear or the smell of cordite or the actual actions of men performing valor into words or even on screen. Even harder is to be able to tell people these were the best times of your life and that you miss the fear, you miss the brotherhood, and even with all the baggage and horrible memories, youd do it all again without hesitation. Today is April 4th, 2014 and I miss my brothers. I miss the men under me and I miss the men beside me. I love you all wherever you may be. In memory of: Ssg. Stephen C. Kennedy Ssg. Christopher W. Dill Both killed in action south of Balad Ruz, Iraq on 04APR2005 due to injuries sustained from small arms fire in a fierce battle that rattled on for more than 17 hrs from initial contact to sensitive site exploitation the following morning. -Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Doin the Lords work.. See you all in Valhalla!
