Ninoy Aquinos Library at the Maximum Security Unit at Fort - TopicsExpress

Ninoy Aquinos Library at the Maximum Security Unit at Fort Bonifacio. Ninoy Aquino was quite a reader. While he was on detention at Fort Bonifacio, his wife, Cory Aquino, would regularly go to F. Sionil Joses La Solidaridad Bookstore at Padre Faura, Ermita, box in tow. Her box would then be loaded with a wide selection of books which Mang Frankie (F. Sionil Jose) deemed might be of interest to Ninoy Aquino. Cory would then bring the box of books to Ninoy during visitation and Ninoy would excitedly go over the loot picking only those he found interesting and sending back the rest. With his choice of books, Mang Frankie could trace Ninoys shifts in political ideology. Judging from the titles in his library, Ninoy Aquino was a very wide reader, with books ranging from political science to religion, philosophy, medicine, law, and romance books aside from weekly magazines like Time and Newsweek. Aquinos collection included Richard Condons Manchurian Candidate (a political thriller translated into film), Castros Revolution, Theodore Drapers Myths and Realities, The New York Times Election Handbook, Pablo Nerudas memoirs, and Danielle Steeles The Cracker Factory. He likewise had on hand the books, How To Interpret Your Own Dreams and Fasting: The Ultimate Diet. This love for books was handed down by Ninoy to his daughter, Kris, who is similarly a voracious reader. I wonder where all these books are now? It certainly is quite interesting to discover what goes into the mind of one of the most important Filipino political figures of all time. Source: Presidential Museum and Library
