Niranjan Jyoti and Giriraj Singhs statements need condemnation not because they hurt the packaging of the government or an election campaign but because they run against the basic ideas of a liberal democracy. Some of this could easily be fixed if the PM addressed issues directly. More than the baying for Niranjan Jyotis head, whats more alarming is that the media is forced to tie itself into knots trying to interpret a reported comment by the PM as being probably about Jyoti. He could just clearly issue a statement expressing his stance on the substance of her comment. She is his minister, not some random BJP supporter somewhere. Its ironic that the Congress now gets to pick on Narendra Modi, a man never known to be short of words, for his culpable silence. The original Silent Man, Manmohan Singh must be chuckling.
