It has been called original and unique, but the message is getting through. Even people (of all ages) who dislike poetry are watching the video and many charities, organisations and hospitals are using the poem and video to great effect. It embraces the issues of mental health, depression, anxiety and bullying. The poem has touched many peoples lives and speaks with great compassion and insight into the human condition. Its a reminder to us all particularly those who have a role in listening to others including pastoral visitors. Indeed the poem speaks powerfully of significant realities and truths, to which so many of us remain insensitively dismissive and embodies aspects of compassion focused therapy. Former Derbyshire Poet Laureate, River Wolton, said - Congratulations on your poetry success. Its heartening to hear of poetry being used so powerfully and effectively in the NHS and beyond. Deemed original, apparently the film has its merits. Daniel Freeman, writer and professor of clinical psychology at the University of Oxford says it is “very interesting and powerful” and Rachel Kelly, a former Times journalist who has suffered depression, called it “wonderful.” Because the poem speaks with great compassion and insight into the human condition, the video has inspired more than its target audience. Representatives of the University of Leicester, Church Ministry, Maggie’s Cancer Centre, Nottingham, Rolls-Royce (Resilience Toolkit), EDF Energy, Lubrizol of Hazelwood, Smith of Derby, Save the Children UK, Everton and Chesterfield football clubs, the Carers Trust, Rape Crisis Organisations and Derby Women’s Centre have claimed it is a very useful resource. From the University of Derby, Edith Moon, Senior Lecturer in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy, said “this wonderful resource will be very helpful in our teaching.” Impactful for Movember as some men are reluctant to address health issues, the concern of theirs and indeed the powerful message for many is: Please Hear What I’m Not Saying. Seemingly the poem will continue to resonate with charities and organisations, particularly with cases of dementia likely to double by 2040. The video is on youtube youtu.be/XYLV7Tgbv8w or google the poem’s title and Paul Wiggins to view. I hope it is of interest. youtu.be/XYLV7Tgbv8w
