No More Forgotten Deaf Prisoners! Thank you, Corinna Hill of Boonsboror, MD and a Gallaudet student who recently got recognized for one of her biggest accomplishments as an intern HEARD – her testimony to Maryland House of Delegates last February 2014! She urged them to launch the Deaf Culture Digital Library (DCDL She said The DCDL will become an online state resource for the public and legal system to use to learn how to work with the deaf community, As you know, the DCDL bill was signed into law last May 15 by MD governor. A wonderful model for all other states! HEARD is a volunteer-run organization founded by Talila Lewis who set a mission to improve communication accessibility for deaf prisoners and fight for those who have been wrongfully convicted. HEARD today has the nation’s only database of deaf prisoners. As a result, other organizations and universities look to HEARD for information and guidance. behearddc.org/ Corinna, who majored in history at Gallaudet University, was like many other deaf people who grew up thinking that the prison system was fair. Now she realizes it has flaws. Innocent deaf Americans are sitting in prison. Source: gallaudet.edu/news/heard.html
