No Spiritual Gift is Greater than the Others A Spiritual gift is not meant to grant its recipient a holier or more special status than his/her brother or sister in Christ. Rather, its purpose is to promote the common good for the entire body of Christ. If we think of it this way, it should deter us from corrosive pride, as we realize that each gift has a specific use, and one gift is not any better than the others. However, even supposing that one gift has more value or status than another, the all-important question is: Did we do anything to deserve this status or recognition? Of course not! God freely distributes these gifts to each person specifically and individually, as we read in I Corinthians 12:11: "But one and the same Spirit produces all of these, distributing them individually to each person as He wishes." We must also realize that all of the spiritual gifts are meant to interact with each other in order to build up and strengthen the church. No one individual, except for Jesus Christ, has all of these gifts.
