No new conditioning coach for Pacman By Dennis Principe | Posted 14 hours ago | 3,182 views Filipino boxing sensation Manny Pacquiao is not keen on finding a replacement for his sacked conditioning coach Alex Ariza. This was revealed by Team Pacquiao’s Canadian adviser Michael Koncz when asked by the Manila Standard Today about a new conditioning coach supposedly hired by chief trainer Freddie Roach. According to Koncz, there is no truth to reports that conditioning expert Gavin McMillan, who now works at Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, is now part of Team Pacquiao. Koncz, however, said that McMillan is indeed coming to the Philippines, but with a different purpose. “We have not hired Gavin McMillan. Gavin is coming with Freddie because of Zou Shimming, he’s not coming here for Manny,” said Koncz. Shimming, the two-time Olympic gold medallist from China will be in General Santos City to set up his training camp as he is also set to see action at Pacquiao’s upcoming November event. After being at odds with Team Pacquiao members, specifically Roach, Ariza controversially jumped ship and decided to work with Brandon Rios, the Nov. 24 opponent of the fighting congressman to be staged at the Venetian Hotel in Macau. Koncz, who sees no need to hire a new conditioning coach also said longtime trainers Restituto “Buboy” Fernandez and Nonoy Neri will take over Ariza’s job. “We’ve got our program and Nonoy’s doing a good job of implementing it. Part of what we’re doing is still a little bit of Alex’s technique, but a lot of it is Manny’s own technique,” said Koncz. Koncz added Roach is scheduled to arrive in General Santos City on Oct. 7, a day after the famed trainer’s ringside work with latest pupil Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico, who will meet former world title challenger Delvin Rodriguez in Orlando, Florida. manilastandardtoday/2013/09/26/no-new-conditioning-coach-for-pacman/
