No one ever likes to admit that they have a rat problem in the bunny barn, but its a fact of life that you will have vermin that either want to get into your feed, or eat baby bunnies. So, Im going to give you a quick lesson in catching these critters QUICKLY! The series of photos describe the following: I was in the barn tonight, feeding, when out of the corner of my eye, I saw something dart underneath a storage table along one wall ( I have a dirt floor in the barn). I immediately leveled some of the ground along that wall, then set and placed a wooden snap trap. Then, I covered it up to create a good hiding place for the rat and I walked away. I DID NOT bait the trap. You can use any one of many different baits to place underneath the trigger of the trap, but I prefer proper placement instead (if placed properly, you can catch a rat quickly because it will bumble into the trap.) I walked around the property for about 3-5 minutes and on my way back into the barn....I heard SNAP! Pulling back on the privacy cover, there it was. I will set up additional traps because I know that during the winter, the females are searching for nesting material and what better place to find it than in a barn! This is my first ever rat trapped in the barn, so I will also go around the entire buildings exterior and check to see if there are any places that the rat may be coming through. The varmint trapper in me has RISEN!
