No one is asking these business owners to AGREE with a woman’s choices. Nor, as many have claimed, are they being asked to PAY for those choices. They are simply expected to provide ACCESS to comprehensive insurance coverage for all of their employees. It’s a benefit those employees have EARNED through the labor EMPLOYEES perform for that business. By singling out contraception access for special scrutiny, these businesses and non-profits have UNDERMINED their OWN religious liberty CLAIMS. Liberty is by definition a matter of free exercise; it is a horizontal right and not a vertical one. Your ability to exercise your faith ENDS where your employee’s right to equal medical coverage begins. To claim otherwise indicates that you are NOT concerned with free exercise, but with the ability to impose YOUR MORAL CHOICES on OTHER people.
