No search results for happiness I was just watching a PBS special called Happiness in which a camera crew follows a young Tibetan boy of about eight years around to see what he goes through in life. We see his mother, which I mistook for his grandmother, talking with him about his not having a father and telling him where she wanted him to live. He says he wants to go a distant monastery, but she says its too far away. He goes to a city three days South to see the monasteries with his uncle. His uncle had broken is television (old CRT type) and looks to buy another and carry it all the way home as he has no other means of carriage. Meanwhile, they seek his older sister who works at a bank as a computer operator, but decides shed rather be an exotic dancer. He returns home to tell his mother that his sister now delivers letters around the city, but feels uneasy and dismisses himself. What strikes me is the direct, articulate manner in which they speak to one another. No words are wasted. Then, at the end, we see the uncles extended family gathered in every corner of their small house watching a soccer match on television. Everyone is expressionless and unblinking as you see the square reflection of the television in their dark brown eyes. It may have been similar shots of other families gathered around their televisions, I dont know for certain. I pitied them and then realized that Im doing the same thing in the moment. This shocks me that Im not more aware of people living in that manner today, yet I envy how genuine they are with one another. I think many Americans evade deep discussions. Im going to email family and friends and recommend they see this. Ive looked to see if Happiness would return, but I couldnt find it on tvschedule.zap2it/tvlistings and tried scrolling to the right a few days. Alas, Happiness escapes me. If you can find it on PBS, watch it.
