Noah Beery, Jr. came by his acting talent honestly. His father, Noah Beery, Sr., and his uncle, Wallace Beery, were Hollywood fixtures beginning in the silent era. Beery, Jr. was born in New York City on August 10, 1913. His father was a theater actor and two years later moved his family to California where he found work in the motion picture industry. When the youngster was seven years old, he appeared with his father in Douglas Fairbanks blockbuster The Mark of Zorro (1920). He continued working steadily for the next 66 years making a successful transition to sound and then to television. His films include such classics as Only Angels Have Wings (1939), Sargent York (1941) and Red River (1948). With more than 150 appearances to his name, he is best remembered as James Garners father in televisions The Rockford Files (1974-1980).
