Noel Ify Alumona Before We Destroy Ms Stella Oduah... The event of the past few days has shown that Nigerians already have the solutions to solve the corruption problem in the country. But, I wonder why were still one of the most corrupt countries in the world till now? Within few days, the ever busy House of Reps set up a committee to investigate the Aviation cars scandal. They also summoned NCAA DG, Head of FAAN, Director of Aerodynamics, Minister of Aviation etc. In fact, they have summoned all the summonable and all have appeared before them apart from the Aviation Minister, due to her official engagement in the State of Israel. The speed at which this was done by the House of Reps is really surprising. The manner, intensity and doggedness at which some Nigerians are taking Oduahgate is very interesting too. Some want her to be sacked, arrested and jailed without fair hearing nor investigation. That is fine, if that would solve the corruption problem in the country. Its also fine, if we can apply the same measure, when weve Mohammedgate or Oluwalegate. Looking at this event, any keen observer would like to ask why we didnt apply the same measure in the other scandals that had plundered this country? I believe, If we had done that, by now, Nigeria would be corruption-free. Under this democratic rule alone, we have had the following gates far greater than Oduahgate, yet nothing has come out of it till now: FaroukOtedolagate ($600k bribe and was caught on camera) FFKgate ($300mil Aviation intervention fund) John Yusufugate (N32.8bn pension fund) OBJgate ($16.4 bil power sector fund) Dan Etetegate ($1.1 bil Malabu Oil scandal) Mohammed and Gen Olanrewaju ($248 mil Siemens Scandal) OBJgate II ($2.5bil Abacha recovered loots) Kenny Martinsgate (Police equipment fund) Aninehgate (N300bil for road construction) Atikugate (N1 bil PTDF) Bankolegate Maina bribery scandal Iboris loot invested in Oando Plc Abdulsalami & Obasanjo ($180mil Halliburton Scandal) El-Rufaigate (Land revocation and relocation to friends and family members) N2.1 bil disappeared from minting office under the watching eyes of Sanusi-led CBN Fashola + Tinubu N600 mil bullet proof cars Osun State N100 mil bullet proof Hummer Jeep Adams Oshimoles Bullet proof BMW Etc. However, this is not to use one scandal to justify another, but before we destroy Ms Oduah, one would like to know why other scandals that involved billions of naira as listed above didnt receive media attention like this Aviation scandal? Why is it that nothing has come out of them? Why, the calculated silent? Why? You can agree with me that if we had used the same intensity were using on this Aviation scandal, on the above listed scandals, this Lugardian amalgamation called Nigeria would not be in this mess today. Though, I will also not fail to point out other scandals that have been treated e.g. Grange, Afolabi, Tafa Balogun (N17 Bil), Bode George (he was cleared by Ribadu, but later nabbed by Waziri-led EFCC), Prof. Osuji, Ette, Uzoma Nwizu etc. Weve also seen how credible people like Odimegwu was forced to resign for saying the obvious truth concerning the sham called census. Prof. Nnaji was also forced to resign for conflict of interest, yet Sanusi has conflict of interest for working with FBN, before his appointment as CBN Governor; so as Diezani Allison for working with SPDC before joining the govt as Transport Minister, and now Pet Minister. This selective justice, criticism, condemnation and probe wont solve our problem in Nigeria. It would aggravate it, because what is good for the goose is good for the gander!
