Noem Chomsky on tax: A very good measure for how democratic a society is, is to ask about the attitude towards taxes. If you had a free, functioning, democratic society, April 15th, when you pay your taxes, that would be a day of celebration. Here we are getting together to fund the policies we decided on. Thats great, its what we wanted to do. Here its a day of mourning. It is not a government owned by and for the people. That in itself is a sign of the serious decline in the functioning of the democratic system. Only having LVT, pigovian taxes, charges on commonly owned resources, etc, may April 15th would be a day of celebration.
