Nominees sought for 2014 Frank P. Zeidler Public Service Award Nominees are being sought for the 2014 Frank P. Zeidler Public Service Award, according to Alderman Robert J. Bauman. The honor is awarded annually to recognize an outstanding city resident who best exemplifies Frank P. Zeidler’s legacy of social justice and civic accomplishment. The award was established by the Common Council in 2006, and city residents who are not elected officials are eligible for consideration. Last year’s winners were Reuben and Mildred Harpole. Alderman Bauman, a member of the award’s selection committee, said he hopes individuals and organizations will once again submit nominations for the award. “Past recipients are people who have left an indelible mark on Milwaukee,” he said, “but there are still many other proud Milwaukeeans who deserve their due recognition for making this city great.” Chaired by Milwaukee attorney Art Heitzer, the selection committee also includes Alderman Bauman, activist Jack Murtaugh, historian John Gurda, and a representative of the Frank P. Zeidler Center for Public Discussion, Shelley Bruehling. Nomination forms are now available on the city website (Milwaukee.gov/ZeidlerAwards) or by contacting Joanna Polanco (414-286-2366 or [email protected]). Anyone can nominate themselves or others, but nominees must be city residents who are not publicly-elected officials. Please submit six copies of the nomination letter (three pages maximum) by June 30, 2014, along with the nominee’s resume and any supporting materials that would help the committee make its selection. Send to: Ms. Joanna Polanco, City Hall Room 205, 200 E. Wells St., Milwaukee, WI 53202.
