Normal to above normal rainfall for Zim: The Southern Africa - TopicsExpress

Normal to above normal rainfall for Zim: The Southern Africa Regional Climate Outlook Forum (SARCOF) has forecast that Zimbabwe is likely to receive normal to above normal rainfall for the period October 2013 to March 2014. The 2013-14 agriculture season is likely to be a fruitful one for local farmers following the projection by SARCOF that most of the regional countries which include Zimbabwe will receive normal to above normal rainfall. Addressing journalists, on the third and final day of the SARCOF conference in Harare, SADC Climate Services Centre Co-ordinator Bradwel Garan’anga said there is hope of a good rainfall pattern for the coming agriculture season. Mr Garan’anga said proper interpretation of seasonal climate forecasts and their application across various socio-economic decision-making processes still remains a challenge in the region, hence the need for a widespread stakeholder participation in the SARCOF process. “This is a major priority of the process as it provides mutually beneficial interface between the practitioners in the areas of production of climate information and prediction and provision of services and partners that need to apply the products across a wide spectrum of socio-economic sectors,” said Mr Garan’anga. However, there are a few SADC member states that are likely to receive normal to below normal rainfalls and these include the DRC, some parts of Angola, Tanzania, Namibia and South Africa. SARCOF is a regional climate outlook prediction process adopted by the 14 countries comprising the SADC member states in conjunction with other partners and is coordinated by the SADC Drought Monitoring Centre in Botswana.
