Normally I dont plug books that Im not involved in, but I make an exception for works that I dont think people would come across otherwise. Im reading this recent translation of one of the most popular science fiction novels in China, 三体. Its really quite good. The translator, Ken Liu, is an accomplished science fiction writer in his own right. The prelude to the novel takes place during the Cultural Revolution and is quite striking. Apparently translations of several other novels by Liu Cixin are in the works, and Im looking forward to them. I largely gave up on science fiction at some point in college, so its refreshing to find something that rekindles my interest. Unfortunately my Chinese isnt good enough that I can read the novel in the original, at least not in a finite amount of time.
