New Zealand, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Australia, the United Kingdom, United States (surprisingly so), Germany, & Iceland round out the top 10 countries most prepared for climate change. In contrast, Afghanistan & several nations from sub-Saharan Africa such as Liberia, Sudan, & Burundi have some of the lowest scores in the index. But wait, notice something? Im not here to knock against industrialized societies with better access to amenities such as electricity, sanitation, & clean drinking water or better prepared for natural disasters & largely reliable governance through robust institutions. Hwvr, these rankings highlight the disparities btwn affluent, developed nations & developing societies in terms of their ability to deal with the consequences (& intl externalities) posed by climate change.
