Not a picture of Sheffield, but a picture of a Christmas card sent to me from Sheffield by my sister. Why photograph a card? Well, living over here in Canada, it reminds me of many of the sayings that were part of my childhood. I grew up in Sheffield, immigrating to Canada in 69. My memoir which I have just published (see: startingtoframe) is written using the Sheffield dialect for all the dialog sections. The saying on the card Frame thyssen was one of my dads favourite expressions and gave me the idea for the title of my book: Starting to Frame. I wonder how many of these sayings are still in use nowadays? I dont hear them a lot when I visit. It would be a shame if they disappeared.
