Not posting this to say look what I did today. But went downtown Mpls early this a.m. to check out the farmers mkt. All the homeless people were streaming out of the mission, because they can sleep there, but have to get out in the a.m. It was 14 degrees. Here are these people, pulling everything they have around in a rolling suitcase. All the money I pi$$ away on goofy stuff, and here are people who are trying to find some place to stay warm all day, until they can go inside again. I pulled a U-Turn, and rolled my window down, and this guy with his rolling case comes up to the window, and the first words out of his mouth were, Can I help YOU, maam? I asked him where he was going, and he said to find someplace warm, and I gave him $20, which wasnt much, but I thought he could get a warm meal or some coffee. But man, Ive been feeling sorry for myself lately about some things at my work. I am so lucky to have a job and a roof over my head. Please dont make this political, or a discussion about how the homeless did it to themselves. I just pray that no one I know or love ever finds themselves wandering in the cold, wondering where they can go to stay warm, when its 14 degrees outside and starting to snow. And if they do, I can only hope they have the grace and dignity that this guy did, to be so genuinely concerned about what he could do to help me.
