Not sure where I fit in this community, but here is my story... I was an infant adoption, privately arranged in the Bahamas. Two years ago after genetic testing and extensive searching I found my bio family. Testing revealed I am approximately 10% Native American (by standard SNP metrics) and that my mitochondrial haplotype is native - A2h. This means my mothers line, my matrilineal line going all the way back daughter to mother to grandmother to great grandmother and beyond, is unbroken native. But when I found my bio family, none of them had a clue they had native ancestry! They had been told they were Spaniards - and undoubtedly they do have a lot of conquistador DNA as well. They are from the Mora valley in northern New Mexico. My mother tests to about 18%, and my grandmother and her brother to about 28%. As I have the time here and there, I am trying to explore our genealogy in that direction to see if I can find out what tribe or tribes we were from, and if possible to find out how that part of our heritage was lost. Anyway, that is my story. Thank you for adding me to your group. I feel pretty strongly about kids being severed from their culture of origin and Ill be constructive here in whatever way I can.
