Not sure where it came from but I have never lived my life trying to please anyone, or for their approval. If I had, I would have used my 4.0 GPA to get into a college of my families choice and I would now have a high paying office job wearing nice always clean clothes and my hands would be significantly more feminine. But early on, I decided to make what I love doing for fun , my job. Things just seem simple to me, like I once put my hair up under my sponsored Antares helmet and it hurt so I wear it down. Berts mane is long because I use it, and need it, to hang on to. People laugh at the chicken straps on all my saddles, but they have saved me many times. I dont set up a tack room with curtains , but , I for sure would if it made them jump better. So I tell my children , be honest and responsible , do what you love everyday, and try to make that your job when you are older. Sing and dance , there is never a reason to be embarrassed , our friends love us regardless and the other people simply dont matter. Wear what makes you feel like you , confident, express yourself. Follow the rules but dont let rules dominate your life and kill the joy. We live once, do it with gusto, with pride, without apologies, without hurting anyone ,be humble but dont feel bad beating them either.
