Note: This is a comment I made on the HEMAA FB page, and feel I should repeat it here. If anyone needs any clarification on what I said, feel free to ask, Id be happy to expound and pontificate (as always). ;-) IMPORTANT! A synthetic waster is NOT a sword!!! It is a waster! With synthetic wasters, the biggest problem (aside from just not being steel) is the amount of bounce they create in hard glancing contact. The more bounce there is in a synthetic sword, the more difficult it is to compare and transition to actual steel. Obviously the least bouncy are going to provide the closest action in comparison to steel. The fact we have to remember is that a waster is NOT going to be as good as steel in acting and behaving like steel (regardless of its name). You can fight and compete with a synthetic sword, but never be fooled that you are competing with something that is, in the end, NOT a sword, but a sword-like synthetic adaptation of a sword. Its still a waster, designed for practice and training to prevent damage to a steel sword by reducing the amount of time and work the real sword would take. A synthetic waster (or an original wooden one) should always be viewed as a temporary work-horse sword, not a true weapon, and drilling tool for getting better at using an actual steel sword. Is it any wonder why the most important thing is to look for the least amount of bounce? Or a bounce that is most similar to that of the spring of a steel sword? And not to look for how much like a Feder a waster is? So, considering this point bounce, Purpleheart Type III are, by far, the least bouncy of them all. ~ quote by: Me
