Note on Robin Williams I made the following comment in response - TopicsExpress

Note on Robin Williams I made the following comment in response to a post from a Facebook friend, who shared his own comments on the Williams tragedy with his Facebook friends. He expressed displeasure with people casting judgment on Williams for the tragic course of action he took, such as comments that he was selfish in this action. I of course respect my friends restricted sharing of his view and comments, but I want to share my own response to his post more widely, as I believe the issue is very important. My response follows: I think people mean well, but what they say sometimes comes out the opposite of sensible and defensible. Williams friends and family and colleagues, Im sure, have complicated feelings about this tragedy, which is unavoidable. But the public at large has no business casting any kind of judgment on this beloved and talented man and the personal choice he must have felt compelled to make. We can wish he hadnt made this choice, for our own reasons, as well as a means of compassion for him and his loved ones. But we have absolutely no justifications for casting judgment on him and his actions. One drawback of Facebook is that it sometimes leads to a tower of babble. RIP to one of the finest talents of our generation, and beyond.
