Notebook Worthy: If Mason is unique at all, it is in her simple but profound insistence that we regard the child a born person. If one is going to propose universal laws of education (natural laws) for human-kind and assert that children are made of the exact same stuff as grown people, children are not oysters or going-to-be-persons, etc., but simply less experienced persons who feel, analyze, generalize, and compare for themselves, then the requirement is (quite shockingly) to allow them access to the literature of grown up people, what weve learned to call, the Great Books, and through those classics to the Great Conversation. -Laurie Bestvaters The Living Page #charlottemason #notebooks
