Notes on falling trees and home owners insurance: 1. Do not tell - TopicsExpress

Notes on falling trees and home owners insurance: 1. Do not tell insurance company that you have a damaged tree leaning over your house. While insurance is supposed to deal with "Risk Management", their concept is for you to reduce the risk not them. they will not pay for preventative work, even if the tree is ddamaged. 2. Once a tree has fallen and done its damage, the insurance Co. has to pay for the bulk of the total damage including roof, water damage, airconditioners, etc. Financially it seems to be more wise to wait for the tree to fall and do damage to house. This will maximise total cost, but as your deductable remains the same you are better off on a percentage cost vs. total expenditure. 3. Get the work done as soon as possible. In Cobb county if the limbs etc. are set out within two weeks, the county will remove it at no cost-your taxes at work. After that time, you are responsible. 4. Get the tree removal service to write on the invoice that the tree did some damage already and posed an imminent danger for more damage.
