Nothing like a little Bodom to burn off the day. https://youtube/watch?v=_jHJZUOuSmo Although by no means the most ground breaking band Ive ever listened to, Children Of Bodom remains among one of my favorite bands for a few reasons. Obviously, they produce some pretty killer metal thats good for everything from moshing people to bits to endless wandering runs to some serious sit-down listening. From a musicological perspective, I think they fill a role in contemporary metal that Mozart fills in the Classical realm. First, stylistically both Bodom and Mozart tend to be a little on the technical side with a stronger focus on harmonic progression than melodic drive. Second, while they dont demolish generic boundaries with abandon in the way that a progressive band, theyre compositions are of the highest quality within the set of conventions that they work with to the point where I think many would agree that their music is definitive.
