During the forenoon Ross T. McIntire and Lt. Comdr. On being relieved, the USS Hall, USS McComb and USS Halligan departed our company for duty assigned. Air coverage furnished by fighter planes from the USS Santee (escort aircraft carrier), operating as part of task group 25 miles to the northward of our line of advance. 5:31pm The USS Ellyson was called alongside and came under the USS Iowas port quarter and an important dispatch was passed to her by hand. Was then directed to leave our company temporarily to effect radio transmission of message. This procedure was followed so that use of her radio transmitter would not disclose to enemy the location of the main body of our task group. Upon completion of task, the USS Ellyson rejoined us.
