November 21, 2013, MOGADISHU, Somolia. (The Telegraph) ...The arrest of journalists and alleged rape victims is becoming a common occurrence under the first internationally recognised Somali government, since 1991. In February, a Somali journalist and an alleged rape victim were sentenced to a year in prison for “offending state institutions” but were later released 2 months later after much international criticism. In August, a Somali woman who was allegedly gang raped by African Union soldiers was also detained, by the police, for questioning. Nicholas Kay, UN special representative for Somalia, said on Thursday that the UN was monitoring the new rape allegation in Mogadishu and warning that legal representation, proper investigation and media freedom (are) important issues. telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/africaandindianocean/somalia/10465747/Somali-police-arrest-alleged-rape-victim-and-reporter.html
