November 28, 2013. The daily Word is “thanksgiving.” Philippians 4:5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; Thanksgiving is not just a holiday; its a lifestyle. It is reflected in how we think, and in how we act and respond. As part of the antidote for anxiety, it is also any essential element of prayer, “in everything.” We know that giving thanks involves gratitude for what were giving, but what does it do for us? What is thankfulness, really, and why is it essential? Think of our relationship with God and with others in terms of a balance sheet. Before we are saved, we incur a huge debt of sin which we could never repay, but that debt was paid in full by Yeshua on the cross. Its like money held in escrow until we are saved, then it is applied to the sin debt, which is wiped off of the books. We are never charged again for what we forgiven. But – there is one debt we still owe. Romans 13:8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. Gratitude is an act of love, repaying an act of kindness in appreciation and blessing. There is no price tag for it, that says we have to give thanks “X” number of times to repay what the Lord or someone else does for us. In the case of God, though, He lavishes His grace and love on us continually, so we always owe Him the debt of love. We repay Him in the currency of praise and thanksgiving, which have no price and no limits. Thats why thanksgiving is a lifestyle; when we live in the love and witness of Christ, we are living in constant consciousness of our gratitude towards Him. In everything give thanks, for this is Gods will for you in Yeshua (1 Thessalonians 5:18). Prayer: Father, we have life by Your love, and by Your grace, and for that we give You thanks. We thank You for all the blessings of health, provision, family, and protection. Thank You most of all for the gift of Your Son, whom You gave because You love us. May our lives always be a testimony of thanksgiving towards You. In the name of Yeshua, who died that we might live. Amen!
