November 5, 1931: Rocks great forefather, IKE TURNER is born in Clarksdale, MS. His group, The Kings Of Rhythm played on early Memphis sessions with Howlin Wolf and BB King. In March, 1951, TURNER and the group travelled to Memphis to cut a session with Sam Phillips, which resulted in the recording of Rocket 88, (based on Jimmy Liggins Cadillac Boogie (1947). Phillips sold the record to Chess to release and Chess neglected to put TURNERs name on the label. Instead they issued it as Jackie Brenston & His Delta Cats (Brenston was the singer and one of the sax players on it). TURNER finally made the charts under his own name in 1960 with new wife, Anna Mae Bullock (Tina Turner). TURNERs 50s recordings were ground-breaking and the focus of an entire Juke In The Back show. TURNER died in Dec, 2007 at age 76. youtube/watch?v=E7yLSiDuca8
