November 8, 2013 on Self Care. What does self care mean to you? It falls under the subset of self love. There are so many categories when we speak of this and physically it may seem obvious but exercise and eating well means we love our bodies and want to keep them healthy. Exercise for me is a must and signs all over have nudged me back to a morning routine to start walking again. Eating is an issue for me the past few years as I used to smoke and after that the replacement was food, but I notice if I exercise that I am in love me mode and I choose what I eat more easily and here I am with the choices again. I will always list our choices for me it means my power. Also my responsibility not to blame others or get into self pity for any situation. I am in control of what is in my life all the time. I promote or allow everything. No excuses. So then what other areas do I practice self care and the largest would be meditation and then doing things I love. For me it is my animals and nature. It can also be reading, decorating or just out doing physical activity and staying busy in a productive project. Other areas are learning as I am at peace when my mind is exercising it loves to grow so Amazon gets perks from all the books I order. Each one I pick up I read and if it isnt what my mind and spirit needs I say ok put this down not for today. I pick up another and it just speaks to my soul and I keep at it until it is complete. Anyone who knows me knows I couldnt use my ipad or a kindle for I write all over my books. Messy and underlined and that helps it to soak into my mind and body. I get so much peace and hope and new direction from each author and a must are my Al-anon and other daily readers and Hazelden.orgs daily meditations which are so insightful. I will read them and say eh not for me today but good and keep going until I can say ahhh thats the ticket I needed that today. So what do you do for self care and self love? It is my belief to be true that when we hear if we dont love ourselves we cannot love anyone else. So inbox me your list of self care items or how you are neglecting yourself and writing that list will inspire you to check them off one by one and choose to make baby steps of change. We have choices right now to drop what we are eating and choose a healthier option or stop mid sentence and restart our day if we are in an argument or find ourselves in a place we dont want to be. The power is here and now and can begin this second if you choose to. Happy Day!
