November of 1926: A horse and cart belonging to Mr. Hugh Keogh of Castle Street backed into the river. The weight of this cart was dragging the horse underwater but, a couple of men in a boat towed the horse to the Bath House where it was landed in safety. (The Bath House had by this time been demolished and the horse was towed to the area of the Wire Ropes as it is today, which was the site of the Bath House. The Bath House did exactly what it said on the tin and was a bath house. The Bath House site later became the site of Mr. Whites forge. The blacksmith had his forge originally on the South Quay but had to move to the Bath House site by order of the Town Commissioners. This was after Dr. Halpin complained that he could not open his windows for the fumes and smoke from the forge on the quay entering his house. The Commissioners ordered him out but recognised that a forge was a vital necessity on the quays at the time and so provided the Bath House site for him to set a forge up on.) Dr. Halpin was happy, the Town Commissioners were happy and one assumes that Mr. White was also.
