Now I am going to write exactly whats on my mind. My name is Charles Bassey Adautin, I am a Nigerian, an indigene of Akwa Ibom State in Southern Nigeria. I am very proud of my country and even more proud of my state. Uyo, our state capital is arguably the city with the best roads in Nigeria (thats if we can call it a city) and home to great infrastructures. I boast a lot about the achievements of the present administration: the laudable projects; the free and compulsory education; the free healthcare services to pregnant women; the good road networks; the gas project and others. However, whenever I look at those aerial views, what I see are classy roads littered with tricycles (keke napep), the ratio of tricycles to cars is like 7:1; I see classy flyovers surrounded by poor houses which points to the fact that though the roads are nice, the people are impoverished; only a handful of my mates living in Uyo are living their dreams and the wealth of the state is concentrated in the hand of a few politicians; the village Im a native of has never witnessed electricity, in fact, my entire Nkari clan has neither witnessed electricity nor one tarred road, the only thing we have witnessed are posters of politicians seeking the peoples mandate. These aspects are easily waved aside by the current administration who are very keen on marketing their achievements against the backdrop of the bitter truth. These facts are a bit disturbing considering the fact that Akwa Ibom state receives the highest allocation from the federal government and has a small population compared to other states. Please dont get me wrong, I am not saying the administration failed woefully but I am just expressing my honest opinion, we have to look beneath the sugar-coated surface, we have to sincerely and truthfully re-evaluate ourselves. It is true that the current administration in Akwa Ibom has received the most ovation in the history of Nigeria but I guess we should stop just looking good on paper and start looking good in reality. People should be empowered, jobs should be created, standard of living should be better.
