Now, I’ve addressed it before and I’m addressing it again. No one can speak for D&G Line Dancing but my husband (G) and me (D). Our “line dance” family extends far and wide and if you are a “true line dancer” then you are family too. We attempt to extend the love we have for line dancing to each and everyone we meet and stand on the truth and foundation of what this line dance culture was built on. In the beginning, we were overwhelmed to know and experience the various line dances and styles across this nation and we wanted more. We would learn dances but unable to obtain the actual music. So we would compromise by putting the dance to a popular song played in our local clubs and dance parties but still giving its truth when taught. Now once we got the music, we still did the doggone thang! (lol) As instructors, we are obligated to be true to our craft and share as much information as we know about the dances we teach – line dance name, choreographer, city/state, song title/artist and its true origin if created under another dance genre. There have been times where I’ve posted incorrect information but thanks to a few of my LD Family members - Nichol Poyntz, Catrina Daniels, Big Mucci, I was given the correct information and made sure I corrected myself in class or on my social media pages. So many of us have been misinformed – not just in line dancing but it is our responsibility to ensure we make the necessary corrections to grow and prosper. Knowledge is STILL power! SOAPBOX....Freedom of speech is a joke in our society. You are chastised for speaking “your opinion” and if folks don’t agree, then you’re thrown under the bus. There are so many social media applications – Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumbler, etc. that gives us avenues to capture the moments in our lives. Sometimes we use them to share “too much information” but that is the user’s choice and we have “no control” over what the user “chooses” to post on their “personal” page. Or do we? When you create a page, you are the owner of that page and you opt to have administrators – if you like. Therefore, you can only control what is said on those pages you “own” – not those of others. Now I believe if you have an “opinion” on someone’s post, then you can “choose” to comment on their post or send them an instant message to address it privately. Before doing so, please make sure you understand what is said – which means read it in its entirety – reading IS fundamental. Please ensure your “point of view” is to the owner of the post or the individual making the comment on the post. If the owner is offended by someone’s comment on “their post”, he or she can make a comment, address it privately or just delete it. Yall know I dont say much out here but this is whats on my mind at this moment in time. Much love & respect.....MD
