Now that Im taking care of our neighbors dog for a few weeks, I have strangers talking to me off the street for the first time. What breed is it? Ummm, I really dont know. Shes a rescue dog and not mine. Everyone is a dog breed expert today it seems. But no one seems interested in knowing my breed. Im Italian-American in case anyone was wondering, but I highly doubt they care. Theyre more interested in the game of guessing breeds and defining animals based on their breed. I get the same thing with chickens. What breed is she? Who cares really. Shes an individual. We dont go around asking people off the street if they are Slovak or Mexican, do we? And we dont openly form an opinion about someone based on their race. That would be a racist judgment. I feel like a cranky, mixed breed mut.
