Now that things are settling down a bit, we thought we would tell you a little bit of what we know about the horses we recently saved from heading to Canada. The first one we are going to tell you about is Saint Abe aka Abe. Abe is an 8 year old, 2007, 16 2 hand, black thoroughbred. Bred in Florida hIs sire is Sweetsouthernsaint and his Dam is Ocean Mystery. He was sold as a yearling in 2008 at the fall Ocala Breeders Sale where he was purchased by Ematere Farm for $2,700. On July 5, 2010 he ran his first race at Delaware under trainer James Conner III, and owned by Flying Together Stable. Abe came in last in this race and lost by 40 lengths. He continued racing at Delaware under the same owner and numerous trainers 21 more times before finally finishing first on Oct. 4, 2011. This was the only race Abe ever won. He continued racing at Delaware and on August 11,2012 showed up at Thistledowns under Burton Sipp. Abe ran in 30 more races at Thistledowns and Mountaineer until October 7, 2014 where he lost his last race by 16 1/2 lengths. He was never seen again until this week when we posted his bail. Abe had a lifetime earnings of $37,797 and earned it the hard way in 58 races. The video below was taken just before we picked him up. Saint Abe is looking for a soft landing with someone that he can trust and will love and protect him. Applications are being accepted for him through Beyond The Roses Equine Rescue & Retirement at beyondtherosesequine.org/btre-online-application.html. Adopters will have to sign an adoption agreement with BTRE and will have to provide transportation to his new home.
