Now this is an interesting scripture. Proverbs 26:11 (NIV); As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly. In Biblical times, the comparison of your actions to that of a dog was a loathsome equivalence. From a very basic humanistic point, these words describe those who think their spiritual state to be good, while in reality it is very lacking. It is really a rather distasteful thought. A dog eats something that makes it sick so the dog throws it up. But soon he returns to his vomit and licks it up. Much is the same with a sinner who may acknowledge their sin and may even partially or temporarily repent from the sin. However, soon they return to that transgression and repeat it again. Someone may be continually living in a state of fragrant disobedience to Gods Word. Nothing is viler than eating the vomit of your failure to obey, as you continue to knowingly violate Gods teachings. This practice may be disgusting to most, but the dog seems to enjoy it.
