Now true im only 25 yrs of age, but i do have alot of insight on local history as it seems, but probably no more than any other locals. Ive always wondered why they dont teach Pensacola history in classes around here, we have such a deep and beautiful upcoming in time, the first colonized city, the first free black man and black settlements, the first industrialized workplace on this side of the US, the spanish trade wars, the pirates and dubloons washing upon shore, they dont even teach about the huge battle of fort pickens and how the reserve for black powder was hit and blown up causing half the fort to just disappear nearly. there is SO MUCH deep strong history and beautiful culture (the voodoo ladys house downtown, the haunted houses and watch tower, the old buildings that just feel full of energy) most locals dont even realise there is an underground community of people living right below us (i shall not go any further on that matter for various reasons) the catacombs downtown underground with skulls mounted in the walls (witnessed for myself). i could go ON and ON, but my point is. with such a beautifully rooted culture and longstanding OUTSTANDING history of such a rich flourising town full of new ideas and ways in the 1800-1900s. why do our teachers NOT teach local history in our classes, it surpasses any controversial universal history, and is something we can take pride in being born and raised!
