#NowPlaying: Hail, Joe Strummer & Happy Birthday! This Is Radio Clash! One of my 20 favorite records ever. Ever. Some days it creeps into the top 10. Combat Rock. Magnificent Seven. So much fiery, innovative music this man and his band The Clash produced. I still believe their interpretation of I Fought The Law is second only to the Beatles cover of Money. It was so tragic to me that Joe passed away shortly before the Clash were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He wanted to reunite with them, not for the money, for the camaraderie. The tribute to Joe at the Grammys that year was evidence of his influence. You may remember Springsteen leading an all-star lineup performing London Calling. When I was recuperating, my friend Philip brought me a precious copy of the 12 of Radio Clash. Back in 1981, only Tom Snyder would have let this Punk Rock meets Hip Hop freak out air on national TV in America. I have simply loved this track since the Reagan administration: from the cartoon intro to Joes apocalyptic rap to the dub effects to everybody hold on tight! Its still a mover. Im getting amped writing about it. Peace and Bbbbleleblleleggggglglguubbggllglg, Cheeeboiga, Joe! #TheClash #HipHop #Punk #JoeStrummer youtu.be/gk0MnQft85M
