Number 1 of the 5 deadly venoms.....The iconic 1962 through 1967 427SC Cobra.... There were days when you sat in history class hearing about the events that molded society. As you gentle dosed off to dream about events that meant something.....visions of a 4 individual carbeurators per bank and tuned headers with sidepipes bellowing like a volcano ready to erupt. 427 cubic inches of American v8 are shoehorned in a british built chassis.....a body that was hammered out by gods disciples and a snake that once tempted eve adorns the badge on the nose. It wasnt just your dream it was the dream of young boy in texas....a man that fought for our freedom in World War 2. It was the dream of someone that if you saw him in person you wouldnt know he was so special. Carroll Shelby did dream and used everything god blessed him with to create the 427 Cobra a car that fought the Corvette on the showroom and Ferrari on the race track. Never will their be another American like Carroll Shelby.....he was a salesman...a designer...a visionary and a manipulator for the dream he knew would become a reality.....Carroll Shelby like Enzo Ferrari used human nature to accomplish his goals.....he would pull tricks that would bend the mind and the rules to create a car that has captured the hearts and the imaginations of car enthusiasts the world over. The Cobra came in 3 varieties the 260...289 and the ground pounding 427 model ...most Shelby gurus will tell you the 260 and 289 models are the sharpest handling and easiest to drive.. but the other 2 models dont have the Nascar derived 427 sideoiler engine that made the cobra hold the record for 0 to 100 to 0 for several years. The 427 cobras gt class wins against the corvette and other international race cars cemented its legacy as Americas most potent sportscar. Since General Motors had tied the hands of Zora arkus duntov and Bill Mitchell....Shelby looked overseas for competition that would give the Cobra the much needed exposure as a serious gt car. Enzo Ferrari was on top of the heap and his 250 GTO was dominating the gt class and the p3 was crushing its adversaries in the prototype class Shelby knew that Ferrari was a worthy adversary and with ford displeased at the pope of the norths decline for the sale of his company Edsel Ford was on a mission and rounded up Shelby and his gang of California hotrodders to build the Cobra Daytona coupe and the godly gt40. Shelby and Ford won 4 years in a row and proved what America could do when a group of car enthusiasts got involved in the process of building cars. Carroll Shelby died at the age of 89...a pillar in the automotive industry and the only American to challenge Ferrari and win. Carroll Shelby never truly passed away....his legacy is thundering down a road on beautiful sunday afternoon tearing up asphalt and anyone that would oppose it. We never truly die we only pass what we learned to others in hopes that our legacy becomes theirs. We teach others when we know our physical body is breaking down and will soon diminish into the earth. Carroll Shelby showed everyone that you need not be rich or extremely talented to make great things happen. you only need a dream and a group of great people who see the amazing potential in your dream..... The blacklist is such a group and our potential is only as great as the people who are the list. Being on the second half of my life I cant wait to meet my heroes in heaven and hopefully go there being one myself
