O The Salafis! Are you still asleep? By عمر الفاروق Umar Al-Faaruuq To the intelligent Muslims; To those who disbelieve in sectarianism; To those who believe that truth is not known by men but men are known by sticking to the truth; All praise and adoration is due to Allah, we praise Him, seek His assistance and His forgiveness. We then seek refuge with Allah from the evils of our souls and from the mischief of our deeds, thus, whomsoever Allah guides no one can mislead him and whomsoever He misleads no one can guide him. I then testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah alone; I also testify that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger; “O you who believe, fear Allah as he should be feared, and die not except as Muslims.” “O mankind fear your Lord who has created you from a single soul and created from it its spouse and created from the two, men and women, and fear Allah through whom you demand your mutual rights and be heedful of the family ties, verily Allah ever watches over you.” “O you who believe fear Allah and say righteous words, He would rectify your affairs and forgive you your sins and whoever obeys Allah and his Messenger has profited greatly.” To proceed: “Indeed, the truthful Speech is the Speech of Allah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and the worst of issues is that which is innovated (in the religion), and every innovation is bidha (in the religion), and every bidha is a going astray and all going astray is in fire.” As to what follows: There are lots of circumstances which hindered my being online several months ago. Alhamdulillah! Things are becoming better but, Im so sad about the harshness in the dissimilarity from among Muslims today. The West has succeeded in splitting the Islamic ummah into two separate divisions. But, as this dissimilarity goes on, it may consequently result into several sects and divisions from among those who claim the doctrine of Ahlus Sunnah. Years ago, the West suffered a tremendous lost on account of the Jihaad of the past Mujaahiduun such as the Jihaad of Sheikh Ibn Taymiah, Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Abdul-Wahhaab and their likes. The past Mujaahiduun strongly waged war against the unbelievers who strived to repudiate Muslims from the worship of their Rabb (Allah) until Islam predominated and the word of Allah prevailed. But, when these pious predecessors passed away, trials and glamour arose in all parts of the nation. Why? Because we do not embark on studying the life history of those pious predecessors; how they practiced the Deen as prescribed by Allah and explained by Prophet Muhammad (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). Weve given the books of present scholars more priority than the books of the Salaf which resultantly opened the gates of trails and calamities. This is but a confirmation of the hadith of the Prophet (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), saying: ﻓﻌﻦ ﺃﺑﻲ ﺃﻣﻴﺔ ﺍﻟﺠﻤﺤﻲ ﺃﻥ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺻﻠﻰ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻋﻠﻴﻪ ﻭﺳﻠﻢ ﻗﺎﻝ: ﺇِﻥ ﻣِﻦْ ﺃﺷﺮﺍﻁِ ﺍﻟﺴَّﺎﻋﺔ ﺃﻥْ ﻳُﻠْﺘَﻤَﺲَ ﺍﻟﻌﻠﻢُ ﻋِﻨْﺪَ ﺍﻷﺻﺎﻏِﺮ On the authority of Abu Umayyah who said that the Messenger of Allah (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: “From among the signs of the Last Hour is taking knowledge from the juniors (the innovators).” (Reported by Al-Laalikaai in Sharhu Usuulis-Sunnah) Ibn Mas’uud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: ﻻ ﻳﺰﺍﻝ ﺍﻟﻨﺎﺱ ﺑﺨﻴﺮ ﻣﺎ ﺃﺧﺬﻭﺍ ﺍﻟﻌﻠﻢ ﻋﻦ ﺃﻛﺎﺑﺮﻫﻢ ، ﻓﺈﺫﺍ ﺃﺧﺬﻭﻩ ﻣﻦ ﺃﺻﺎﻏﺮﻫﻢ ﻭﺷﺮﺍﺭﻫﻢ ﻫﻠﻜﻮﺍ “The people will not cease to achieve goodness as long as they take their knowledge from their elders (the pious salaf), but if they take it from the juniors (the innovators) and evil doers among them, they will perish.” The west constantly find means of demolishing the Islamic Da’wah (the call to Tawheed and Jihaad), but all their labours were in vain. They later discovered that the only means of demolishing the Islamic Da’wah and overcoming Islamic governments is by splitting the Islamic Ummah into divisions. The West had succeeded in upbringing tyrants among Muslims who at long run impacted void knowledge on our brothers. This nugatory knowledge eventually resulted in an unfruitful repercussion. At last, the Islamic Ummah is now of two divisions; A division calling to Jihaad (Salafy Mujaahiduun or Salafy Jihaadists) while the other division is against Jihaad and they are called (Salafiyyah Jadeedah) Modern Salafis, Subhaanallahi!!! You can as well ask yourself: which among the two divisions will be beloved to the West (America, Israel and their supporters)? By Allah! It is the modern Salafis, since establishing Jihaad is considered as rebellion and terrorism by the West and the modern Salafis consider the Mujaahiduun as Khawaarij. Subhaanallahi! As if there is no Aayat in the Holy Qur’an emphasizing Jihaad! As if Jihaad is against the Da’wah of the Prophet (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam)!! As if Jihaad is against the teachings of the Preserved Qur’an and the Purified Sunnah!!! As if Jihaad is an innovation! The modern Salafis regard the Mujaahiduun as Khawaarij and Kuffaar. If you ask them, why have you termed the Jihaadists Khawaarij?” they will reply: They are establishing Jihaad without an Imaam (Khaleefah; one whom the entire Muslims will give the pledge of allegiance). Subhaanallahi! This is an inspiration from Shaytan!!! On what evidence do they (the anti-Jihaad Salafis) rely??? They rely on vain thought!! They rely on lust and desire!!! This is an inspiration from devil. And so We have appointed for every Prophet enemies - Shayaateen (devils) among mankind and jinns, inspiring one another with adorned speech as a delusion (or by way of deception). If your Lord had so willed, they would not have done it, so leave them alone with their fabrications. (And this is in order) that the hearts of those who disbelieve in the Hereafter may incline to such (deceit), and that they may remain pleased with it, and that they may commit what they are committing (all kinds of sins and evil deeds, etc.). [Al-An’aam 6:112-113] Brothers! This is a great sorrow! What sort of void claim is this? As if there is evidence in the Qur’an or Sunnah that says, No Jihaad without an Imaam (Khaleefah)! All they say is that the Prophet (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: الإمام جنة يقاتل من ورائه The Imaam is a shield. Fighting is fought behind him. (Reported by Bukhaari) But, there is not a single pointer to say that the word “Imaam” which is mentioned in this hadith implies the Khaleefah. The Prophet (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was not present in all the battles fought when he was alive upon being the Khaleefah. He rather appointed a leader to lead the people at some battles and these battle leaders were called “Imaams”. (3/1469) It was narrated that ‘Ali (may Allah have mercy on him) said, “The Messenger of Allah (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) sent a troop and made a man from Al-Ansaar their Ameer. When they left, he became angry with them for some reasons and said to them, ‘Has not the Messenger of Allah commanded you to obey me?’ they said, ‘yes.’ He said, ‘collect some wood,’ and then he started a fire with the wood, saying, ‘I command you to enter the fire.’ The people almost entered the fire, but a young some among them said, ‘we’ve ran away from the fire’. Allah’s Messenger (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) was told what had happened, and he (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said to those who wanted to enter the fire: “If you had entered it, you would never have come out of it. Obedience is only in righteousness.” [Ahmad 1:82 and Muslim 1840 chapter: Kitaabul-Imaarah] In this hadith, the Prophet, who was the Khaleefah only sent a troop under the command of a leader then, how would this be reconciled with his statement, The Imaam is a shield. Fighting is fought behind him if truly the Imaam implies the Khaleefah? Should we say that the Prophet acted oppositely to his statement? Refuge is sought in Allah from saying that! And if we were to accept that the Imaam in the hadith implies the Khaleefah then, the refutation is from two angles: Do they now mean that the battles which the Prophet did not attend were blameworthy? Since he said, The Imaam is a shield. Fighting is fought behind him. Yet, he was absent and the battle was fought behind someone else!!! Or, didn’t they know that there were lots of battles which the Prophet did not witness? Likewise, Abu Bakr and Umar during their khilaafah. Let them ask and we shall teach them! 1- We ask them to produce a conditional clause to conclude the aforementioned hadith that ...and there will be no Jihaad except with an Imaam. Why do people oppose the truth with falsehood and ignorance? How disastrous ignorance is upon its people! Ive witnessed a situation where two salafi brothers were calling people to salafiyyah; they both strongly kicked against shirk, kufr and bid’ah. While there was another brother who supported bidha and shirk and he showed hatred to those two brothers. One day, one of the two salafi brothers detected that his partner is in support of Jihaad even without a Khaleefah. He tried to question him and held several dialogues with him but, the other brother made him know that there is no evidence to claim that there should be no Jihaad without an Imaam (Khaleefah) rather; it is Jihaad that will bring about Khilaafah. Due to that, the brother who was upon the doctrine of No Jihaad without an Imaam departed from the other and he went to befriend the other brother who was in support of bid’ha and shirk and they both waged enmity against this Jihaadist. Subhaanallahi!!! He preferred befriending an innovator, a polytheist to associating with a Jihaadist!!! Falhiyaadhu billaahi! Those who take disbelievers for Awliyaa (protectors or helpers or friends) instead of believers, do they seek honour, power and glory with them? Verily, then to Allah belongs all honour, power and glory. And it has already been revealed to you in the Book (this Quran) that when you hear the Verses of Allah being denied and mocked at, then sit not with them, until they engage in a talk other than that; (but if you stayed with them) certainly in that case you would be like them. Surely, Allah will collect the hypocrites and disbelievers all together in Hell. [An-Nisaa 3:139-140] Some people think that Khilaafah has just stopped in this century. There had been no Khaleefah for Muslims for decade of years, yet scholars established Jihaad. Would it be said that the Jihaads established since that time till date were in vain? Would they (the anti-jihaad Salafis) say that the Jihaad of Sheikh Ibn Taymiah and Sheikh Muhammad Ibn Abdul-Wahhaab were also unrewarding?? Or would they say that they were also among the Khawaarij and Kuffaar or they established Jihaad in the course of Shaytaan as the Saudi tyrant Muftis do say??? And likewise, the Jihaad of Saifullahi against at-Tatar was established without Khaleefah yet scholars regarded those Mujaahiduun as taa’ifah mansuurah (victorious sect), Ibn Taimiyyah also said so in his Majmuu fataawah (28/531). The Prophet (salla llahu alayhi wa sallam) knew that a time will come when Muslims will have no Khaleefah, he said: ﺍﻟﺨﻼﻓﺔ ﻓﻲ ﺃﻣﺘﻲ ﺛﻼﺛﻮﻥ ﺳﻨﺔ ﺛﻢ ﻣﻠﻚ ﺑﻌﺪ ﺫﻟﻚ [ﺻﺤﻴﺢ ﺍﺑﻦ ﺣﺒﺎﻥ 6814] The Khilaafah in my Ummah is for thirty years after that, there will be king. [Sahih Ibn Hibbaan] Upon this, he (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said: A group of people from my Ummah will continue to fight defending the truth and remain triumphant until the Day of Judgment.” “A group from among my Ummah will not cease to be fighting upon the truth and victorious until the day of resurrection.” (Sahih Muslim (1923) Kitaabul Imaarah) This is explicitly clear and narrations like these are not hidden in the books of hadith. The fact that the Prophet said that Jihaad is continuous till the Last Hour is enough to show that the Saudi government tyrant scholars (Fawzaan, Rabee’ Al-Madkhli) and those who join them in saying that Jihaad is forbidden with the absence of the Khaleefah are shayaateen, devils and innovators. Many Muslims are in jail suffering just because they call people to tawheed and Jihaad and the other division is pleased with that. They (the division of no Jihaad) even call them dogs of hell, Subhaanallahi! Meanwhile, the Prophet (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) had described Khawaarij in authentic ahaadeeth, he said: They will kill the Muslims and spear the pagans. If I were to be present when they appear, I would kill them as the killing of the nation of ‘Aad. (Sahih al Bukhaari, V. 9, hadith 527) Among the innovations Khawaarij are the following: - They think that faith does not increase or decrease - They think that failing to do something obligatory constitutes disbelief. - They think that committing a major sin constitutes disbelief. - They believe in fighting Muslims who disagree with them. From the above statement of the Prophet (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), it is realized that the Mujaahiduun are not Khawaarij since they only declared war against the enemies of Allah (America, Israel and their supporters). How can the one fighting the Kuffaar or fighting the kufr leaders be regarded as Khawaarij? While Allah says: فقَاتِلُوۤاْ أَئِمَّةَ ٱلْكُفْر “Then, fight against the leaders of kufr (disbelieve)” (Suurat At-Taobah 9:12) Even if two Islamic groups are waging war against one another, does that make them to become Khawaarij? If yes, then do they mean that ‘Ali and Mu’aawiyah were Khawaarij since they waged war against one another? If two Islamic groups are waging war against one another, none of the two parties is Khawaarij; the guilty party is rather called “Ahlul-Bag’y (The Rebel)”. Allah says: “And if two parties or groups among the believers fall to fighting, then make peace between them both, but if one of them rebels against the other, then fight you (all) against the one that which rebels till it complies with the Command of Allah; then if it complies, then make reconciliation between them justly, and be equitable. Verily! Allah loves those who are equitable.” (Hujuraat 49:9) Lastly, it is good to fully refute the allegation of those say that the hadith, The Imaam is a shield. Fighting is fought behind him means that there will be no Jihaad except with an Imaam (Khaleefah). Okay, if we were to accept that, then let’s consider another hadith: الصيام جنة ، فلا يرفث ولا يجهل ، وإن امرء قاتله أو شامته فليقل إني صائم مرتين “Fasting is a shield, he (who fasts) should not engage in obscenity or ignorant talk, and if someone tries to fight him or insult him, let him say, ‘I am fasting, twice’.” (Bukhaari (1894) Kitaab As-Sawm) In this hadith, the grammatical construction is in the same manner as the first hadith. The Prophet (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said that fasting is a shield therefore, no obscenity so, will these modern Salafis now tell us that we can engage in obscenity and idle talks when Fasting is over? Refuge is sought in Allah from opposing the truth with ignorance and falsehood! Here is the statement of Sheikh Muhammad ibn ‘Abdul Wahhaab’s grandson whose name is ‘Abdir-Rahmaan bn Hasan bn al-Imaam Muhammad bin ‘Abdil-Wahhaab an-Najdee (May Allah have mercy on them). He talked specifically about this innovated condition for Jihaad. He said: “It is to be stated: By what book and by what aayat does there contain an evidence that Jihaad is not obligatory except with an Imaam that is followed?! This is from the innovations in the Deen and a straying from the path of the believers. The evidences that invalidate this opinion are too well known to mention. From them, there is the general order to wage Jihaad and encouragement towards it and the threat of punishment for abandoning it. The Most High said: “And if Allah did not check one set of people by means of another, the earth would indeed be full of mischief. But Allah is full of Bounty to all that exists.” (Suurat al-Baqarah 2: 251) And He said in Suurat al-Hajj: “For had it not been that Allah checks one set of people by means of another, the places of worship much would surely have been pulled down.” (Suurat al-Hajj 22:40) Everyone who establishes Jihaad in the path of Allah has obeyed Allah and fulfilled what Allah has obligated and the Imaam would not become the Imaam except through Jihaad not that there is no Jihaad without an Imaam. The truth is the exact opposite of what you have said oh man…” End Quote. The Sheikh further said: “The points of reflection and the evidences concerning the falsehood of what you have authored is abundant in the Kitaab and the Sunnah, in the biographies, narrations and statements of the People of Knowledge with proofs and narrations – they are almost not even hidden from an idiotic person because even he would know of the story of Abu Basir when he came as a Muhaajir (immigrant) and the Quraish sought from the Messenger of Allah (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) to return him to them according to the condition that was between them in the treaty of al-Hudaybiyyah so he departed from them, killed the two Mushriks that came in search of him. He headed to the sea shore after he heard the Messenger of Allah (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say: “Woe to his mother! What excellent war kindler he would be, should he only have supporters.” Thereafter he attacked the caravans of the Quraish when they came from Sham. He would seize (their wealth) and kill; thereby he was independently waging war against them without the Messenger of Allah (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) because they (the Quraish) were in a treaty with him in the truce. So, did the Messenger of Allah (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say: “You were mistaken in killing the Quraish because you all were without an Imaam?” Far removed is Allah from all imperfections and impurities! How harmful ignorance is upon its people! Refuge is sought with Allah from opposing the truth with ignorance and falsehood!” (Ad-Durrar as-Sunniyah 8/199-200) The hadith the Sheikh was trying to point out happens to be the longest hadith in the sahih Bukhaari. I will only cut out the needed part: It is reported that Allah’s Messenger (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) made a peace treaty with the Quraish, which allowed the Muslims to perform Umrah the year after the treaty was conducted. However, in this treaty there was a quite distressing condition, which said that if a Makkan embraced Islam and went to Allah’s Messenger to seek shelter, he would be handed back to the Makkans…After making this treaty, Allah’s Messenger (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) returned to Madeenah. Now, a man named Abu Basir bin Asid Ath-Thaqafi from the Quraish happened to have embraced Islam during this truce. When the Prophet returned to Madeenah, Abu Basir, the new Muslim convert from Quraish came to him. The infidels sent in his pursuit two men who said (to the Prophet), “Abide by the promise you gave us.” So, the Prophet handed him over to them. They took him out (of the City) till they reached Dhul-Hulaifa where they dismounted to eat some dates they had with them. Abu Basir said to one of them, “By Allah, O so-and-so, I see you have a fine sword.” The other drew it out (of the scabbard) and said, “By Allah, it is very fine and I have tried it many times.” Abu Basir said, “Let me have a look at it.” When the other gave it to him, he hit him with it till he died, and his companion ran away till he came to Madeenah and entered the mosque running. When Allah’s Apostle saw him he said, “This man appears to have been frightened.” When he reached the Prophet he said, “My companion has been murdered and I would have been murdered too.” Abu Basir came and said, “O Allah’s Apostle, by Allah, Allah has made you fulfill your obligations by your returning me to them (i.e. the infidels), but Allah has saved me from them.” The Prophet said, “Woe to his mother! What excellent war kindler he would be (i.e. he would start a war), should he only have supporters.” When Abu Basir heard that, he understood that the Prophet would return him to them again, so he set off till he reached the sea shore. Abu Jandal bin Suhail (another Muslim convert) got himself released from them (i.e. the infidels) and joined Abu Basir. So, whenever a man from Quraish embraced Islam he would follow Abu Basir till they formed a strong group. By Allah, whenever they heard about a caravan of Quraish heading towards Sham, they stopped it and attacked and killed them (i.e. infidels) and took their properties. The people of Quraish sent a message to the Prophet requesting him for the sake of Allah and kith and kin to send for (i.e. Abu Basir and his companions) promising that whoever (amongst them) came to the Prophet would be secure. So the Prophet sent for them (i.e. Abu Basir’s companions). [Saheeh Bukhaari (2731) Kitaabush Shuruut, English trans. Volume 3, Number 891] Abu Basir (may Allah be pleased with him) started fighting alone without waiting for any companion to join him. Afterwards, he had some companions to stand by him, and was engaged in Jihaad according to the command of Allah: “Therefore, fight in the path of Allah; you are accountable for no one except for yourself. Urge the believers to fight; it may be that Allah will overthrow the might of the unbelievers, for Allah is the strongest in might and severe in punishment.” (Suurat An-Nisaa 4:84) Abu Basir (may Allah be pleased with him) did not fight behind any Imaam, rather he was his own commander, when he put one of his enemies to death and later other companions joined him and fought alongside him. The Prophet (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) did not say that Abu Basir was wrong or that he was mistaken because he had no Imaam over him, rather the Prophet (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) praised him saying, “Woe to his mother! What excellent war kindler he would be (i.e. he would start a war), should he only have supporters.” Comment: the word wayl (woe) in this statement does not imply a curse at any course rather, it is used as interjection. This innovative condition for Jihaad and the division between Salafis are from the plot of the West; they from the plot of the Kuffaar. When would Muslims wake up from their slumber?
