OCC Official Chart Update - Close of business Tuesday: He’s had 12 Official Singles Chart Top 40s, his debut album, +, spent three weeks at the top of the Official Albums Chart and has sold over 1.79 million copies to date in the UK, but surprisingly, Ed Sheeran has never scored a UK Number 1 single, however that could all change this weekend. Sing, the first single to be lifted from Ed’s upcoming second album, x, has stormed to Number 1 on today’s Official Singles Chart Update, with the Pharrell-produced track having sold nearly 72,000 copies in the UK so far this week. Sing currently sits over 47,000 copies ahead of its closest competition, Sam Smith’s Stay With Me, a non-mover today at Number 2. Reigning Number 1, Secondcity’s I Wanna Feel, slides two places today to Number 3, followed by the only non-British artist in the Update Top 5, Mr Probz, who holds firm at Number 4 with Waves. Completing the midweek Top 5 is the second highest new entry of the week, The Neon Brotherhood’s Hope Ain’t A Bad Thing. The charity single, in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust, is a tribute to the late 19-year-old Stephen Sutton, who raised over £4 million for the charity before his death last month. In at Number 10 is Lethal Bizzle’s The Drop FT Cherri Voncelle, while Kasabian’s Eez-Eh, the band’s first single in over two years, is at Number 18. British producer and DJ, Wilkinson’s Half Light FT Tom Cane enters at Number 21. Finally, Dutch DJ, R3hab, and Turkish/Dutch DJ Ummet Ozcan have joined forces with Australian duo NERVO for new track Revolution, which sits at Number 29 today. The highest climber on today’s Official Singles Chart Update is Little Mix’s Salute, climbing 13 places from Number 40 to 27 after its official release last Sunday. The quartet’s self-titled debut album is currently sitting at Number 4 today, followed by Led Zeppelin II and Led Zeppelin III, at Numbers 7 and 6 respectively. Upon their original release in 1969, Led Zeppelin’s self-titled debut album peaked at Number 6 on the, while follow ups Led Zeppelin II (1969) and Led Zeppelin III (1970) both hit the Number 1 spot. In total, the group have notched up a massive 17 Top 40 albums with eight releases reaching the Number 1 spot. Elsewhere, Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour looks set to fight off the competition and once again claim the Number 1 spot, holding its lead over Coldplay’s Ghost Stories (Number 2) by a tight margin of just over 2,000 copies, according to Official Charts Company sales data. At Number 3, Clean Bandit’s debut offering, New Eyes, is the highest new entry so far this week. New Eyes features Clean Bandit’s previous Top 40 singles Mozart’s House, Extraordinary FT Sharna Bass, and Rather Be FT Jess Glynne, which spent four weeks at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart back in January. Rounding out the midweek Top 5 are Manchester’s James who are back with their first full-length studio album in six years, La Petite Mort (5). Paul Weller’s More Modern Classics, a compilation of the icon’s tracks from the past 15 years, enters the chart at Number 8 while Hank Marvin’s Hank is in at 11. Dame Vera Lynn’s National Treasure - The Ultimate Collection is new in at Number 13 coinciding with the forthcoming 70th anniversary D-Day celebrations this weekend, while in at Number 16 is US rapper 50 Cent with his fifth studio album, Animal Ambition - An Untamed Desire. English indie folk bank, Moulettes’ Constellations enter the chart at 24, while American country singer, Miranda Lambert’s Platinum is at 26. Rounding out this week’s new entries are satirical hip-hop group The Midnight Beast, in at 32 with their second studio album, Shtick Heads. There are two re-entries today - the 20th Anniversary Definitive Master of Morrissey’s Vauxhall and I (33) and Kings Of Leon’s 2003 debut, Youth & Young Manhood (38). Rodriguez’s Searching For Sugar Man Original Soundtrack is the highest climber on this week’s update, jumping 31 places from Number 52 to 21.
