Elvis competed in a talent contest by singing a song called Old Shep. The future king of rock and roll placed second in the contest and won $5.00...1960-Ike Turner and wife Tina Turner, who was 8 months pregnant at the time, appeared on American Bandstand...1980-An inauspicious start to Bruce Springsteens tour in Ann Arbor, Mich. As the E Street band launched into Born to Run, Springsteen forgot the words. Later in that show, Michigan native Bob Seger joined The Boss on stage to for a rousing version of Thunder Road...1992-Topping the British albums chart was ABBAs hits collection, Gold: Greatest Hits. This greatest hits package also went to No.1 in Australia and several European countries, but only reached No. 36 in the USA. It has become ABBAs best-selling album, ringing up sales of over 28 million copies worldwide...2000-Ben Orr, bass player and singer for the Boston-based band The Cars, died from complications of pancreatic cancer.
