ODD SPOT Man reports car stolen 21 times in 13 years to avoid traffic camera fines Geelong Advertiser via news.au 27/2/13 Nobody likes paying traffic camera fines, but a 64 year old Geelong man came up with a brazen method of avoiding multiple fines against him over a period of 13 years. Between 2000 and 2012 the man reported his car stolen 21 times. Mysteriously, the man would locate the stolen car himself in various parts of Geelong. Police became suspicious during the last report when a forensic check revealed only the man’s fingerprints in the car. Further investigation revealed traffic camera offences had occurred during the periods the car was allegedly stolen. The man entered a guilty plea in Geelong Magistrates Court to seven counts of obtaining financial advantage by deception and three counts of making a false document. He was fined $2,500 dollars, though it’s worth noting that no demerits points or orders were made against his license.
